Finding the Right Books for Your Kids

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

A couple months ago, I saw a post in the Facebook group for my kids' preschool. Someone wondered what books had characters with the same name as her daughter. She wanted her daughter to be able to read about people who share her name.

It occurred to me that there is no easy way to search by character name, and I also thought that other parents might have the same desire. So I put together a Database of Books Listed According to Character Names for kids' books.

This includes many names but it's not all-encompassing. It's also not finished, and I will keep adding to it as I find more information, but I've been working for weeks now and I wanted to get it out there so parents can start using it as a resource.

Names are listed alphabetically. There is an index so you can click on the letter at the top of the database. It will link you to the letter in the document, so you don't have to scroll eternally.

Feel free to leave me a comment or DM me on Instagram if you know of a name you'd like to see included or if you know of a character in a book that should be included. These are children's books only, but I didn't separate them by age, so there are picture books, chapter books, and teen books included.

I also didn't include biographies because those are generally easier to search by name. There are some extras included at the top of the database, both books that are about unusual names and a database of biographies that are great for kids.

Reading to your kids is a great way to help them learn and appreciate stories. As they master their alphabet and their tastes in books change, this can help you provide books to hold their interest.
